Smiths are nice, but I think Costas have the edge..... just my opinion.

I have the Costa amber 580p lenses but usually still wear a pair of Cabelas glasses because they're a lighter shade. The amber is to dark at low light levels for me. The new Costa Sunrise color looks perfect to me and am contemplating the purchase of another pair.

I dont know about Smiths Optics.

So, do any of these Costa frames allow for changing out the lenses for a different color? That is one thing i like about my Oaklys, i can swap lenses as needed.

I have a pair of Costa del mars with the skimmer frame, these are great and the lenses are interchangeable although I've not tried it yet.

Another vote for the 580 glass from Costa. Received my pair with my Rx a few months ago. It's not light, took a while to get used to the slight increase in weight, but the clarity is remarkable.

I ended up getting the Harpoon model.

Based on this thread, I guess I should check out some Costa Del Mars. In the past I looked past them because none of their designs that I saw in stores appealed to me.

After looking through their website, I can see one or two designs that I actually think look good.

Now the question is if I have the will to go see if I like them.

Both are quality glasses and I don't think you'll make a wrong descision either way. For me frame style and then lens color usually lead me to a pair of glasses. I tend to like plastic lens for the lightweight.

I use the Maui Jims copper glass. They are a little heavy, but easy to take care of. I found that I got use to the weight and tend to forget their on. I fish generally small trout streams with a fair amount of shade and find the copper color allows much better visibility in the water.

Does Costa make a photochromatic lens?
