This is method of avoiding the hook point posted on FAOL.

Take a piece of dacron backing and loop it around your ring finger with a cow hitch or around a wedding ring with the cow hitch.

Click the image to open in full size.

Hold the other two ends of the backing between your index finger and thumb. Now you place the hook over the backing and pull back. When you release the dacron, it will release the fly.
