SA to be sold; Ross sold again

3M of MN is selling Scientific Anglers, best known for its lines, and Ross, the reel manufacturer that it had just bought, to Orvis.

I'm not enthusiastic about this sale because I liked having a local company in the fly-fishing business, because 3M has been a great innovator in fly lines, and because I view Orvis as a marketing company rather than a tackle producer. (Not that they don't market some quality equipment.)

The news report in the[U]Star Tribune[U] did not specify whether 3M is retaining its manufacturing role or whether the sale includes this. This is important because 3M manufactures the lines for other companies/brands as well as its own. Also, SA and Ross are manufactured in the USA.
