Who is that handsome devil in that picture? (Hi JP! long time, no sprechen)

On topic: I was just talking with an friend this morning about fishing. I commented that i am now tying on barbless hooks. He looked at me as if I was doing card tricks for a dog. "don't they shake off easier?" "what if you lose a trophy because he shook?" etc. I told him that ,IMO, just tying something that can fool the fish is enough. If he shakes free because of the lack of a barb, oh well. I was just going to release him, anyhow.

Just getting the fish to accept your fly is the thrill, if you don't land them, no big deal, that part of the sport, but you still got the fish to accept your fly!

I fly fish because participating in a natural and wild ecosystem brings me peace and makes me feel closer to nature and God. Part of that participation is harvesting the occasional fish, on streams that I feel that I can sustainably and legally do so.

I'm still pretty young, in fly fisherman terms (32), so it'll be interesting to see how my attitudes change as I get a bit older.
