I will be interested to hear comments from others that might have some history on the rod. I have two GFL III RPL rods, a 5wt. and a 6wt., both 9 footers. I looked back at my 90's catalogs and can't find where Sage produced a 7' 4wt. The RPL (Reserved Power Light) rods were fast action with high line speed for a more accurate cast. I hope you enjoy your new rod.

I hope I do too! it will be a few weeks before i get to cast it but i am really stoked to see what it can do! I fish a lot of smaller creeks around utah so it should be a good rod for them.

The Sage RPLs have a cult following, count me as one of them. Like others have said these rods had a fast action and likely the shorter length of your 4 wt may quicken the action a tad more.

I have owned many RPLs over the years and they perform very well with a GPX line from Scientific Anglers as these lines feature a shorter belly and are half weight heavier than the standard.

I wish I would have known that I went the cheap route and got a rio mainstream in a 3 and 4 WT

Here's a discussion that may interest you.

Sage Rod Chart Old to New

What old model Sage did you break that they replaced with an RPL? Many of the now discontinued Sage models have a very solid following.

That baby was from the times when you could get a short rod with the balls to throw big stuff and charm bracelets in tight situations.
That was out before the trend hit for short, too-light rods.
