No experience with rod breakage, but their warranty has you completely covered. Give them a call, they'll tell you all the particulars.

There is a recent discussion on LL Bean reels, you can read about some of our members experiences with Bean's warranty here.

I have an LL Bean Streamlight Ultra which I love. On a winter fishing trip this year, the reel seat fell off in cold weather overnight in my car. It looked like it wasn't properly epoxied. I called Bean to ask if I could fix it without voiding my warranty. The customer service tech suggested I just mail it for replacement (they cover S/H both ways for defective products). When I insisted that I wanted to keep MY rod and didn't see the sense in making Bean send me a new one, she put me on hold to discuss it with a fishing "specialist". She came back online and said there was nothing I could do to void the warranty because it is a "satisfaction guarantee". If I wasn't happy with it, I could simply return it for a refund or exchange. She couldn't seem to understand why I wouldn't just want a new rod.

I told here that I was very satisfied with my rod and my LL Bean experience and that I had a date with some trout and needed to make a trip to the hardware store for some epoxy.

I'm very impressed with LL Bean's warranty.

Been a LLB customer for Decades, only two 'odd offs.' Call, "Toss it and we'll send you another one."

Well, almost .... 'We'd like to see, but your new one will be sent to you today.' Stuff crossed in the mail. (For context=clothing)

Rather doubt they get many 'Customer Complaints.' (Pun intended)

Had the tip break off one of my rods. Went into the nearest store and they swapped out rods with a new one off the rack. No questions asked.

I used to live near the flagship store so took a friends rod up after he broke the tip on a fishing trip. Wasn't a defect, the owner straight up snapped the tip putting it back in the tube. I felt a little weird about it since A) it wasn't my rod and B) it wasn't a defect but owner screw up. I told them this up front and they asked me, "Is the owner of the rod satisfied with the product". I said no since it's broken. The representative said they would mail him a new one, which they promptly did. The guarantee has changed from way back where now it keys on "satisfaction" being the magic word. Customer service told me you had to explicitly say you were not satisfied and then it was no questions asked.

Had a rod tip break on my LL Bean rod a couple months ago. Called the 800 number I found on their website, and what do ya know someone actually answered the call without any automated voices! I was amazed.

She told me to print off the pre-paid shipping label, ship the rod/reel to their warehouse and they will take care of the problem. They actually just sent me a gift card back for the price of the rod. Could not have been more of a pleasent experience.

I've actually been wondering about LL Bean rods and fly fishing gear for a while. When I think of LL Bean I think of back packs, tents, and winter coats, not fly fishing rods. I've always been hesitant to buy their rods/reels just because they don't seem like they are as geared towards fly fishing (or fishing in general) as other companies like Cabelas/Orvis/Bass Pro even.

I'm sure I'm very wrong, but its just the though that's always in my mind. They never jump to the top of my list when I need something new. Do you guys go right to LL Bean for new stuff or are they plan B for you?

The bean warranty can't be beat as others have already said. I'm currently seriously considering purchasing a 9' 7wt streamlight ultra as my first steelhead rod, but I must say for some reason I dislike reel+rod cases, I think they all look kind of cheesy. On a side note, anyone have other suggestions for a steelhead rod? I'm leaning towards a 7wt I think it'll handle all the steelhead I'd be going for. Anyone know if Allen still offers naff member discounts? Last I read 6mo's ago it depended on the stock. Allen has had a solid product line and following for a while now, so I wouldn't be surprised if he has a hard enough time keeping supply up as is. I've gotten quite a bit of use out of my trusty original alpha 5/6 and it'd be hard refusing a nice price on an Allen outfit.

Sorry I got a bit distracted, but to answer the original question, you won't have to worry about breaking your rod tip slipping on a rock or in a car door with the bean warranty. Honestly, their warranty almost seems too friendly to consumers. I have a pair of water sneakers that I use heavily when fishing small creeks in the summer, and I've already sent them back once solely due to them slowly breaking down after normal wear and tear. They held up in a manner completely consistent with similar products, but their warranty covers it, which seems absurd. Nothing should be expected to last forever (Except for my obsession with dry-fly fishing). I don't know if I'll have the heart to send them back for another pair once they're shot.. theoretically I'd never have to buy another pair again, yet if everyone did that, I doubt the company would survive.

So, in conclusion, yes Bean has a great warranty that you won't have to worry about if you accidentally break something, yet at the same time, be careful, because from a basic economic and financial perspective, a company can't sustain a warranty like that if products are carelessly abused.
