Default Dear Sage, Patagonia, etc.. I have no desire to buy a trucker hat.

Ok, I was born in the late sixties, and I survived the fashions of the seventies and eighties. This means I endured the mesh backed trucker hats back when they were just called "hats", they were usually festooned with a Ranger Boats or Bass Pro emblem in those days. Please understand I have nothing against hats or truckers I simply find these mesh backed lids unattractive. I would love to score a Sage, Scott, etc hat that is twill and without both structure or mesh. Thank you, rant off.

Ya...truckers are awesome. Ventilation...mmm...

Now flat brim hats...that is a whole other story! I never did get that fad nor did I ever think its cool. And I'm 26 yrs old and should by all rights fit into that category. But I'm sorry, I wear my pants and waders at my waist...not half way down my butt.

I would only wear a trucker hat while fishing if someone would provide me with Zubaz waders...

Folks call me "the Amish Cowboy"! LOL

I have a Stetson hat with a weave vent top. It looks so Amish? That's why I purchased the hat.

It goes good with my Orvis waders?

Haven't worn a baseball style hat but a few times in my life,,,and that was only to keep my top hat from being in hazzard,,or dirts,,way, (under the house plumbing,,etc)

I have several 'cowboy hats'..couple Fedora's..etc,,but zero 'ball caps.'

Now as to why.

My dad never owned a 'ball cap' in his life. Neither did my uncles. They were old school. Back then,,guys DRESSED UP to have a shooting match even. You didn't go fishing looking like a bum either. There was a respect for life,,,for others,,and for yourself. I was always impressed by the 'manly bearing' of someone in a top hat,,even today I am.

I don't hate trucker/ball caps,,,they are just not me. But NOBODY looks respectful in ANY hat, if they are dancing like they got hit by a moving car while trying to steal the hubcaps. Ain't no hat gonna fix that.

I got a fedora like that at Tractor Supply. Canvas brim and top (fake) strawsides. It actually looks pretty good and its comfy in Florida. Keeps the sun and rain off better than a ball cap too. Plus they only run about 12 bucks and have a chin strap so you don't lose them in the skiff when you're running.

I love ball caps and am looking to get a trucker hat for fishing in the heat. I'm tired of ruining perfectly good hats - the last one I retired was three or four colors, none of which were the original Seen the Sage and Patagonia but don't really want a name brand name one.
