Default Bear Pepper Spray Instructions

If attacked by a bear, draw your pepper spray, unlatch the safety, and calmly and accurately point the spray toward the eyes of your fishing partner and then run like the wind!!!
I know there are other good instructions for bear encounters out there, so lets hear a few of them!

They should add, "make sure to not spray upwind."

'I've been told' these spray cans are effective up to two feet. Problem is a big Bear has three foot long 'arms.'

Always carry running shoes in bear country. You may not be able to out run a bear, but you could outrun your partner.

A fishing billie, or small bat can be useful in a bear attack. Simply "knee cap " your partner so they can't run, and go on about your business.

Every session I have ever attended on preventing bear attacks ended the same way! If all else fails BOAKYAG( Bend Over and Kiss Your A-- Goodbye!)! Doesn't really instill much confidence in bear spray!

Many hikers have been advised to wear bear bells on their clothing so as not to suprise or startle a bear you might encounter. It is also advised to carry bear spray.
A good way to tell what kinds of bears are in the area is to examine bear scat found on the trail.
Black bear scat contains fibrous material, plant scraps and smells like berries.
Grizzly beat scat contains bells, clothing scraps, and smells like pepper.

When I think about this, you are probably doing them a favor. Seriously, do you really want to see what the bear is doing to you?

I like to bring along a jack russel terrier. I figure it will give me at least an extra three seconds before the bear swats it off its leg and regains its attention to me.
