Yep,

The movie star who had a thing for Ellie Mea but was pursued by Jane Hathaway. One of the guys at work (everyone had a nickname at the mill) hung that one on me. He was a tremendous movie & TV buff and knew about Dash. Vegas gave me the name in 1981 before I left for a west coast trip on my motorcycle. He said that if I made it big while in Hollywood "I would need something that would look good on the marquis" he said that 'Ard' wouldn't cut it.

The rule about Steel Mill nicknames was that you had to somehow earn oor resemble your handle. No one was allowed to pick his own nickname. Back then I kinda looked like a Dash Riprock kinda guy

My closest friends at B. Steel were Lambchop - The ferret - Vegas - The Ginzo - and The Woogie Master. Everyone had a nickname

I used to write and with a band, preform parody songs for a morning radio show in PA. so the Dash Riprock thing worked. The members of the band and chorus were............ Virgil & Velvet Hone (The Hone Bros.) Lambchop - Ralph The Wonder Dog & The Schrack Attack.

It was quite a fun time, we called the band Steel Aid, like Farm Aid, get it? The steel industry was in trouble by the mid 1980's and that's when we were popular.

Good story there, Dash! Did you ever meet your "Jane"?

Good enough for me to sign on as the first Swapmeister for this Fall. I'll open a thread on the Fly Swap subforum tomorrow - streamers this time! Let me know if OK by the Admins.

[ I really didn't think that people on a fly fishing forum would take me seriously if I signed on as Dash Riprock so I became Hardyreels.

This is a serious group here CAB, I think most of us know who one another are by now and I believe we take each other seriously. Of all the forums on the web this is perhaps the best and most serious general fly fishing discussion groups going. We are big and growing still, seriously
