I'd say trout would get my vote for the one fish I'd target, but I think it's more because trout fishing for me necessarily involves taking a trip to a new and exciting place. I live in NE Kansas, and its warmwater territory here.

As far as what I target most, it's bluegills with bass a close second. Fishing a trout stream is great, but also out of the question unless it's vacation time. A farm pond loaded with bass and bluegills, though, is a different story. There's plenty of those available to get an evening or afternoon on the water. The more I fish for them, the more I appreciate them. They're a blast to catch and they give me flyfishing opportunities galore.

Trout by far ......ample opportunities in this area; great streams; superb scenery and a nice opponent for learning all the little nuances. But .....I will say that I've got CARP on the agenda for this summer!

I fish for trout 100% of the time. I hear bass are fun on a fly rod too though.

I am not sure what fish to pick. I have not caught alot of different kinds of fish yet on a fly. but if i had to choose with what I have had the experience of catching it would bluegills on a top water fly. they are very aggressive torwards a fly and fight hard for there size. the rock bass I caught didn't fight too hard. but channel catfish I caught did.. only thing about a gill is they don't take me on those intense runs like a steelhead or something huge would and I would love to have my reel scream just once!!!.

There's no way I could choose. I guess I just don't discriminate. I'm blessed to live in an area that within 15 minutes there are 2 larger (for here) rivers and numerous streams with trout and the seasonal runs of salmon and steelhead, countless small lakes and ponds with bluegill, bass, pike, etc., larger lakes with all those species plus walleye, and even bits of Lake Michigan with all its species. I'd fish in a large mud puddle if that's all I had time for. I'm equally happy to be fishing for anything.
