I had the most wonderful day today! I took my fly rod to the Yellow Breeches C&R area.
This past "extreme" winter made me only take my spin rod with gigantic large hooks and huge plastic things. I tried big inline spinners, drop shot rigs, and jig heads with Gulp. Sure, I caught a couple trout, but no fishing fun at all for me!
Today, 63 with normal stream levels, and I knew in my heart I had to fix my "lacking" to catch with my fly rod! I was mixed up and started with a jig head and a Gulp minnow on my fly rod. Nothing for a bit, when I realized I had to go back to my normal fly fishing methods.
Thin line catches fish! period! I put some 6X Frog's Hair Fluorocarbon tippet on my 3wt and only used size 18 and smaller flies.
I caught a bunch of beautiful rainbows, and a couple browns. So much fun! The best day fishing for me in quite a while?
Now, I'm not haunted by a spin rod anymore. A friend of mine at the creek caught a couple trout on a dry midge! I could see some small BWO's and tons of white midges ........ so I have a few ties to make before next trip.
I feel a heavy weight lifted from my sholders ...... I feel that I have been "Born Again"!
