Default Winter Jacket Color

With plans to fish this winter Ive been looking at jackets but not sure on color. All my fishing is done in the northern part of Colorado along the Front Range and over towards the Blue.

If you are trying to not let the fish see you, I would suggest dark olive, dark brown, or even black.

All the underwater photos I've seen from a fish's perspective, show that the edges of a trout's above-water view window, where all the intermediate and distant above-water objects get compressed, is dark to very dark natural colors of green/brown/black. These above-waer edges blend in with the trout's distant below-water views which are also dark to very dark olives, browns & blacks. Even in winter.

Closer objects are seen relatively well, and unless we can stand perfectly still for long lengths of time like a heron, it's our movements that mostly gives us away.

Anyway, that's my theory! :-)

Dark and drab colors. Just look at the natural foliage and other things on the stream edge. Blend in with that. You don't need to get all crazy and go out in a ghillie suit, although that would be epic! Check out these jackets from Condoor outdoor gear. These jackets are awesome and you have all dark/drab colors to pick from. They have almost all the features of an expensive fishing jacket but at a fraction of the price.

I was just thinking with snow mix into the color scheme some lighter colors might be option.

But then you have the dark green from the pines, along with the grayish bark color. Looking at Gortex or some of the other more weather proof fabrics.

Google/go to REI.

1953:
REI hires its first full-time employee.

I was one of their first customers. Clothing is bullet proof; if it can go to the top of Mt. Everest it will take what ever you get tossed at you. Forgot to add their first two full time employees HAD climbed Mt. Everest.

I tend to go with dark, natural colors. Where I live, like you M A, winter fishing can be pretty extreme. Darks colors will hold, rather than reflect heat if the sun is out. Gore-Tex or something else that sheds water as a top layer. And a hood is a must. My preference is a light weight shell worn over a polar fleece second layer. Jackets and layers under them that have full length zippers will help you regulate your body heat and moisture.
When fishing where everything is covered with snow, I like the contrast provided by a dark jacket. Especially if somebody has to come looking for me !
Olive drab, greenish grays, black, etc, are good. Nothing that looks like buckskin, tan, light gray, or khaki for me during hunting season.

Siege,
Thanks of the input. Fish here get pounded, I'm trying to minimize the visual cues they pick up on.
