Default Have you ever had those days?

I caught my first trout on a fly around 1948 at the age of 5 or 6. That’s long before most of your parents were born, right. So I guess by now I should be writing books and getting patents of some sort on flies or fly-fishing gear. But, here it is 60 years later and I still find myself asking questions and looking for answers. I get confused and frustrated at times when fishing and I seem to learn from much older and much younger fly fishermen at streamside. Sure, when there is a major easy to identify hatch I have no problem landing 30 or 40 or more trout in an afternoon and evening. But there is always that occasional outing when the trout are rising feverishly and I just can’t figure out what they are taking. Sometimes I can get them on an emerger of some kind, or maybe a wet fly or a spinner. But sometimes I just can’t get them on anything, or figure out what has them so excited. Have you ever had those days?

As a guide I've had days where I've used everything in my fly boxes. Nothing the client was doing wrong but could hardly get any action. Thats the reason they call it fishing and not catching!!

Yeah, that's when we decided we really wanted Mexican and not trout for dinner all along!
