Default Re: Getting fish to the reel/drag

I have found the only time that I planned too use the drag on the reel I lost the fish ( it went into a log pile and it was over ), it helps to always play the fish by hand, then the reel if the fish gets that far (it will be harder too land if you let the line out untill your on the reel). On 5x there should be no problem (unless it is damaged) my 5x is 5.4lb (my leader) and I use 3 or 4 lb tippet with this. with experence you will know what you can pull with your gear.

I would agree with Jim the drag should not be that high you should be able to attach it to a board at your feet with the rod straight up and pull line of with out stressing the tippet too much (you do need to stand on the board).
