Looking for a new reel for my 3wt. Has to under $225. already have a lamson for my floating line, but want a nice reel for my sinking line. Suggestions? Also, if I don't get one for my 3wt, looking for one for my 6wt. Thanks for any help.

Check out the Orvis Battenkill Mid Arbors. You could get two of them and they are as smooth as any reel I have used. Very well done.

I've used a Ross Cimarron 1 on my three weight for years and love it. Put the drag to work on a 10 lb carp recently and it protected my 5x tippett for 45 minutes just fine.

There's lots of fancier options that would stay under that price limit too. I would also consider the Galvan Standard, the Galvan Rush, the Ross Rythym, the J Ryall Standard, and the Elkhorn T-series. Steve's shop, thefullcreel.com sells most of those.

Can you get an additional spool for your current reel and just put the sinking line on that? It is just as easy to change out the spool as it is the whole reel.

That is the first thing I would look into. I love Galvan, look into the OB-1 I think retail is right around 220. I have a couple OB-3's and love them.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I may look into a extra spool, but I don't think they make that model Lamson I have anymore, any ideas where I might find one. I think it was the 1.5 Lamson if I remember right. Will look at the Cimarron, the battenkill and Galvan also. Was kind of hoping to get a reel and line for the $225. Thanks guys.

Drifli,

You might consider going with a Lamson Velocity. Since Lamson was bought out by The Waterworks, the quality reel you have come to love remains a constant. I still have several of the old LP series including 2 LP-4s that routinely visit the Salt. My LP-1.5 runs just like the day I bought it.

The new Velocity features basically the same drag my original Froce is equipped with. Suffice it say, I think it is fantastic. The Velocity falls right into your price range with extra spools available at a reasonable cost.

Visit their website: http://www.waterworks-lamson.com/velocity.html

I have heard some wonderfull things about the Lamson. But for some reason, I dont care to much for the overall look of it.
