Default Rio Gold Line

I just wanted to leave a quick review of the Rio Gold line I bought this spring.

I love it!

Yesterday I was trying out my new Kayak and the wind was so strong that it blew my hat off twice! I was still able to cast a 6 weight line with a foam football-stye strike indicator.

I caught about 5 bass while doing this little test.

with all due respect to you and rio's line, isn't your report more a testament to your casting abilities and the rod you were using rather than the line?

I don't think so. I've been flyfishing for 40 years, I've been using that rod for 10, and I know what kind of cast I could make before. This line performed noticably better than what I had used previously. Now I haven't tried a lot of lines, but I have used various Cortland lines (333, 444, 555) a a few SA lines. The Rio Gold is definately my new favorite.

Your mileage may vary.

I know what you mean, ez. I spent $100 on the new Sharkskin line and all it does is hurt my fingers!! LOL
A lot of experienced fly casters are only using DT anyway.
So much marketing. But, I'm the biggest fool in the flyfishing world......... if I see something that looks good on the internet, and I had a couple glasses of fine chilled wine, I'll spend anything I have to....... and next day shipping for me!!
I love to flyfish and I love to tie flies and I catch a few, but I really think the anticipation is better than the fishing itself!
Seeing a new line on the net with some reviews...... I'll spend whatever I have to!
Later, I've got to see what Orvis has on sale.

I received some GOLD WF while at the Expo in IF (BONUS). I have spooled it up and test cast it in the street. So far I have only been using the Ridgeline, but after your report, I think I will take it out to the POND and maybe my ST II and try all three.
I do know I definitely haven't given it a chance ...YET!
Thanks Jake.

Hate to make you jealous, but the reason I bought the Rio Gold was that the local Bass Pro had some on sale for $9.88 (That's right, ten bucks) I could only get two lines, so I got a 5 and a 6.
