I am just surprised you guys are able to keep expensive sunglasses for so long!!!! I swore years ago to buy cheap sunglasses since I break or lose them so often!! I really prefer a bronze/brown tint as well.

I've been using some grayish colored ones by Costa Del Mar. I'll probably get some brown lens ones some time down the road, but for now these are doing the job for me and it's refreshing to have a pair that FITS. I couldn't imagine being on the water without a pair...of any kind! Debbie's got a pair of AOs with the interchangeable lenses and I kinda kicked myself in the butt since hers were about the same price as my Costas. For everyday and driving/flying, it's my Serengetti aviators with the brown lenses. I love those things! Good glasses can be a lifesaver.

My Grey Maui Jim's are great driving glasses but cut out way too much light for nearly all fishing situations except perhaps flats. I use Action Optics "amber" polarchrome which are yellow for almost everything lately though they tire my eyes faster than their orange/pink tints.

I use to buy the Wally World specials for that very reason, but, it is strange, when you do get an expensive pair, your sub conscious part of you brain must kick in, cause you are automatically more careful.
I have a bad habit of sliding my glasses on top of my head. This will scratch glasses bad (hair) but the glass lenses can take it with no problem.

Hi to all,

I think some people buy their glasses based on how they see and not on what is best for the eyes. I have worn glasses most of my life and I don't want any glass that passes too much light no matter how much contrast they give. If you ask a Ophthalmologist what is the best color they usually recommend Grey. Not for better sight but for protection. The Grey does block more light but give truer colors.

The other colors give a strange color cast according to what color lens you are using. I have a Vermilion pair of glasses that I don't like the cast it gives to my view. All colors other than Grey that I have tried let in too much light. The purpose of sun glasses is to allow you to see better but we can't forget the importance of protecting our vision. I will stick with my Grey ones.

Frank

I wear prescription glasses.

I have a pair of prescription polarized gray and a set of polarized clip on that are brown or amber to go over my standard prescription.

I do find that there seems to be more contrast with the brown however I probably use the gray more than the brown for fishing and the brown more for driving.

Tight Lines, Mike

Can you really tell a big difference between the Orvis Tri-Spectrum and other high-quality fishing sunglasses? The Orvis ones are about twice the price. Are they twice as good?

It's funny but I always felt the same way. I can't keep a cheap pair of glasses. I lose them or break them. But I've bought three pair of expensive fishing glasses over the years. Still have them all!! The first pair I bought were Revo H2O's, Bought them about 18 years or so ago. When spend a $100.00 or more for a pair of glasses you pay attention to them!!
