Default Road Trip to Bend, OR

The wife and I drove out to Bend, OR last week and had a great time visiting with old friends. On the way out we stopped and spent the night in Swan Valley, ID and did a little fishing with Kelly (he had to leave early for a dinner engagement), we didn't catch anything but we both had a couple missed opportunities and best of all he showed me the famous spring creek. While in Bend we did an afternoon trip to the Deshutes River where I caught a nice brown trout. On the way back to Swan Valley we stopped at the Saddle Sore Saloon for some great hamburgers (Fysh had recommended, thanks for the tip!). I fished on the South Fork a couple hours before it got dark, hooked into a nice trout that did an LDR on me in the fast current. Here are some photos:

Nice report.

I love central Oregon. I try to get over there as often as possible. Where on the Deschutes were you fishing?

Vans: I don't remember the name, it was a campground south of the Sun Valley resort. Too many anglers there for my liking, but at least we got out on the water.

Great pics Larry.

Great place to stay, I think I've been in all of the cabins atleast 3-4 times each lol! Always very clean and comfortable. Jake runs a first class operation.

Glad you got to enjoy a burger @ the Saddle Sore, my favorite is the Green Chili and Swiss Burger. Their meatloaf special on Thursday gets rave reviews from everyone I've seen try it, maybe I'll try it next time we're there.

This area offers so much diversity in water, tail waters, Spring Creeks, small streams, freestone rivers, and stillwaters too.

Fysh: Thanks! I couldn't agree more, Jake and Michelle are great people and run a great place to stay while in Swan Valley, ID. Last year the Saddle Sore had a kitchen fire so it was shut down so we missed eating there and went next door to the Angus (I think that is the name) instead, it wasn't nearly as good food. We ran over to Victor in the mornings for breakfast, found a great place called the Scratch with great food.

I agree the South Fork and all the other water around there make this a wonderful place to fish. I just wish it was closer to home. I saw lots of boats running up stream with motors, then drifting back down.......certainly one way to beat the shuttle issues below Conant.

Nice fish Larry.
Looks like the South Fork is still full of water. That sure is a pretty spot.

Sasha: I wonder why, you live in Gods Country! With all the beautiful streams in your area, I don't think I would make it to Oregon either!
