Some fishing terms used only in Hawaii.

Whipping....
Spincasting. Casting with a spinning rod.

Star Hook....
Trebble hook.

Hana Paa.... Hooked up to a fish, Fish on.

Dunking....
Cating out a bait and letting it sit on the bottom.

Siyonara Strike.... Fish hits, takes out all your line, and keeps going.

Spark Plug ---> A heavily weighted stonefly that is size 8 or larger. It usually has a tungsten bead and a body wrapped with .025" or larger lead wire.

-PIG = a really big fish that you caught.
-Piece 'a candy = whiskey flask
-"The end of my line" = answer to "what are they bitin' on?" (From the -book/film A River Runs Through it.
-Worm Dunker = Bait fisherman
-Kitchen pass = permission from the wife to go fishing.
-Flossing = foul hooking a fish
-Spaghetti and Meatballs = San Juan Worm and a Salmon Egg
-"Try a roll cast" = also from A River Runs Through It. Something you say to your buddy to make him mad when he is getting skunked.
-Paparazzi = taking pictures of a fish you caught
-Greased bowling balls = refers to giant slippery rocks in a tough to wade river (The Madison in MT gets referred to this way a lot).
Marlin = a trout measuring less than 6 inches.

Orvis hatch - too many fishermen on the river

Sludge hatch - ice chunks in the river

Baptism - falling in the river

Bird's nest - what happens when you false cast a three-fly nymph rig and end up with a tangled mess

A spell - how far it is to hike to a hole you plan to fish

Body Count - catching lots of fish

Stickbass=Fish composed predominantly of cellulose

Rock Trout=Fish composed mostly of stone

Monster=Fish under 6 inches

Drownin' worms=baitfishing

Folger's=baitfisherman

Hung start=When you catch the tree or bush behind you on the very first cast of the day.

Hot start=When you hook your fishing partner on your very first cast of the day.

Treed=When a fish inexplicably flies over your head after you set the hook and ends up in the tree behind you, usually 10 ft off the ground.

Ski=Fish between 7 and 11 inches (once known as a 7-11) that can be 'skied' into your net from 20 ft away.

Kung Fu Fighting=When you slip on rocksnot in a fast-moving river and then must fling your limbs around for ten seconds to prevent going for a swim. this is usually accompanied by much shouting to focus your chi, almost always beginning with the word, "Holy -," insert your own favorite chi-building word.

Sleeping with the fishes=When you complete your Kung Fu Fighting by going for a swim.
