I'm usually on the bow of a flats boat, waist deep in the surf, or down in a kayak, so I find myself with a longer than average rod in my hands most days, with 9'6 being my favorite.

Have rods from 5' to 10', which are all my favorite for what I use them for... my go to my 5 most fished rods are all in the 8-9' range, the most used of those are both 8'6".

All my rods are currently 9'. I would like to get a 8'6" or a 7'6" for smaller streams but unless I get into spey fishing I do not see a point for myself to get a longer rod then 9'. I know some salmon guys prefer a longer rod for salmon but I already am a big guy at 6'7" with long arms so, the extra length is not a issue in my opinion.

Re: Favorite Rod Length Poll

I have many different rods and it's very hard to pick my favorite; but here goes. For the majority of my fishing I use the 8'6" 5/6 wt, smallmouth bass and general trout fishing. For the tiny streams I have a 6 1/2' or a 7' depending on where I'm fishing. For Steel I have my 10' 7wt, and as of Tuesday I now have a 10' 6wt; don't tell my wife...LOL If I'm swinging streamers for Steel I grab my 9'6" 8 wt.

Best I could do,

Dan

I didn't enter a vote in the poll because my choice is an old Orvis 7' 9" Far & Fine. I have used it since 1979 for everything except king salmon.

I have rods of many lengths. When Scott made a 10', 5Wt., ( Med. Action) for me back in 1985, I became hooked on the longer length rods for their mending qualities when fishing wets, soft hackles and nymphs. I have since purchased many rods in that length and in different weights from a host of manufacturers. I wish Winston still offered rods in Wts. 4-6. Longer rods are popular in Europe. Do they know something we don't?

All that said, I'd love to give one a spin. I bet the rod and line would almost feel as one.
I would imagine it would be like trying to fish with a cattail

If I had to pick one I would say a 9'. Its long enough in most situations without being impossible to cast in tight spots.

For the waters I fish I use my 10ft 6wt the most.
