Default Versa Tip set up

I looking for some advise. I have a Rio Dredger Versa Tip setup and was looking for a floating tip; can I use a shooting head as the front half or will a shooting head not work with the Versa Tiip System.

I trying the versa tip today and found it difficult to cast a heavy bug; I then went to the local fly shop and got a lecture on by my product. He basically led my to a shooting head setup. In lieu of spending more money on another line setup, can I just use the shooting head (Airflo) in place of the Dredger sinking tips?
