Default Newbie signing in

Just wanted to say Hello All.

I just signed up, doing some research on gear and such. Want to start fly fishing this spring and want to learn all I can this winter to be better prepared.

Looking forward to being a member of the site.

Thanks

- Right now I feel pretty lost in it all. I have been reading up on gear for beginners, and am probably going to try the TFO NXT 5wt, 9'. Beyond that....Im lost. I guess a good start would be to chat with some local experts at the fishing/ tackle stores... Anymore suggestions to get started? Whats the best way to learn about flies and which ones to use and all that?

Thanks for the help

Doublelung-

Welcome to the board. There are a lot of folks on here that are from your area, so ask away, just throw out some of the water you壇 like to fish and the stuff you want to chase (bass?, panfish?, trout?, or even salt water stuff?). I知 sure folks will chime in with recommendations for gear in your budget, flies etc.

One thing you might want to do is check out Trout Unlimited: Council/Chapter Search | Trout Unlimited - Conserving coldwater fisheries

or Federation of Fly Fishers: Locate a Club

for local groups that are nearby. You値l learn a ton and it値l really help your learning curve. Most will have beginning tying classes, casting clinics, informative meetings on local water, techniques, group outings to local streams etc, and you値l meet a bunch of folks you can learn from, try out different gear, and meet new friends.

There are also tons of books, and online resources that will all help cover the basics, but good place to start is to do a search through this board for threads on folks that are just getting started. A lot of them might help answer your questions, but feel free to ask if they don稚.

You値l have a blast.

Hi doublelung2009,

Welcome to the forum. I am glad you found us and hope to see you often. You might want to take a look at the FAQ forum. There is some good information for a beginner. The search tool is helpful in finding threads about specific subjects.
