My Grandmother and great great great uncle says that when they were young the snow fall was more and worse than it is today, at least in Chicago that is.

Without giving away age, when I was younger being the youngest of three, my sisters cleaned the house which left yard and snow to me. My dad would help.
I remember the winters being equal to the really BAD storms we are receiving once in awhile now. Snow up to the windows! Get it once in awhile now, but back then it seemed all the time, not to mention weeks of Blizzard conditions.

They were worse when I was a kid also, and that wasn't all that long ago.

It's funny to hear people talk of how bad our winter was last year, when actually it was about the same as when I was a kid. I wish they were more like that.

I like to ask older folks I get to know about winter when they were young and all of them say; they were much worse and more frequent than these storms we have today.

I know my kids were alot older then me when they got to sliegh ride for the first time, we did it every winter growing up, but when my kids got old enough, the snow would come and go in a day or two, and we seldom got enough to mess with untill the last couple years.

I think the snow just seemed deeper when we were kids.

Here in Ohio, we're within an inch or so of the snowiest January ever. And the temps have been well below normal pretty much all month.

As a maple syrup producer I see a definate change in the weather. We seem to have a shorten spring with winter hanging on until last of March then a short spring, then summer. Summer hangs on and shortens fall. I was hunting pheasants in Nov. in "T" shirt. Top-water smallies were available untin end of Nov. The weather is more severe with extreams.
When I was young the snow was up to my waist, two feet now up to my waist 3 ft. That being said we have had a cold winter with lots of snow! Up to my waist at times! lol
