Default Braided Butt Leaders

I was going through some old fly fishing stuff and found some Dan Bailey's Braided Butt Leaders in sizes 0X to 4X and all 7 1/2 ft. long. They have "a soft, braided nylon" butt that goes into monofilament. Also, they're labeled "LEAD CORE."

What do you think of these leaders? At 7 1/2 feet are they meant to take a tippet to create a longer trout leader or are they bass leaders? At over 16 years old and looking like new (never been used), do you think they're still good? And what does "LEAD CORE" mean? Are they meant to sink or reinforced for strength?

Default Re: Braided Butt Leaders

I have some old Orvis braided butt leaders that I never used until last season.
They work kinda like a furled leader in that they are very supple (and spray water )...
You add a tippet to the short mid mono section. The braided butt itself is only the butt section, probably only 1/2 -2/3 of the whole leader
The lead core ones are for adding a 'sink tip' to a floating line. Very handy
