Default Re: Keeping A Log Book?

I've logged every trip going back to 1988. Started with notebooks, moved onto computers around 1993/1994 (Lotus 1-2-3 and Word Perfect), and later onto a combination of MS Excel and MS Word, which is where I am now.

I keep a secondary logbook of just insect hatches as well, sorted by month.

Fun to go back and relive the memories... also has proven to be a valuable learning tool. At first I hated documenting the bad trips, but I came to realize that those are the trips you actually learn something from. Good trips are cool to write about, but the ones that leave you scratching your head are the very ones that force you to do your homework for future trips.

I keep a simple written journal. Where we went, when we went, where we camped and any
details about conditions, flies that worked etc. Usually includes any extra good meals and anything else meaningful, like seeing an eagle or meeting that WWII veteran on the river.

I've got a few hundred places marked in Google Earth that I either have fished or would like to fish. Once I have fished them, I change the icon from a pushpin to a fish, and put notes in the description about when I fished it.
