Default Stocking up for another year.

I was just wondering what people stock there vests, etc. with in regards to tippet and leaders for trout and smallmouth bass fishing. Also if anyone knows how long you should keep tippet or leaders for? meaning is there a shelf life for these by the line actually breaking down over time even if never used, but sitting around for couple of years?

Thanks in advance,

Pavel

For trout I carry tippet spools of 3x to 7X and change out every season- UV light (sunlight) can break down the line--- that said when you shop for them, hopefully they haven't been sitting on a hook in the sun (take one from the back of the peg) or hanging on a hook for 10 years.

For bass, since the leader and tippet is stronger pound test (I often use just 12-6lb mono for tippet) I'm less picky, but it wouldn't hurt to change that as well.

On a bass leader related note, largemouths don't appear to be particularly leader/line shy so shorter leaders are fine. I start with 7.5ft and don't worry about adding tippet until I've whittled it down to 6ft or so. Smallmouths are a different matter and guides will tell you to use long leaders.
