Default Saw a 9-Yr-Old Catch His Forst Trout...

My wife and I were gearing up in the parking lot, and a father and his 3 sons
were just coming back to their mini-van. The youngest son had a decent 11"
trout in a plastic bag, and was talking a mile a minute about it ! He told me
about the fight, and how the rest of the family was having pork chops, but
he was going to have trout...LOL! Dad was trying to find more plastic bags,
as the mini-van looked brand new. The other boys didn't catch anything, but
said they were thrilled to see their brother land one.

After not getting anything myself (except for a very small LMB), I was trying
to cast the entire length of line on a fishing pier. Another father and 2 sons
(around 10-12 years old) came onto the pier after I told them there wasn't a hook on the end of the
line. The father told his sons that there was an "art" to ff'ing, so I had to
get a rod into their hands to show them that it's not all that difficult. They
were using my wife's 9' 6wt, and were casting 20-25 feet nicely within 10
minutes. They asked why the fly line was so thick, and why I needed a leader. After about 30 minutes of explanations and casting, I gave them each
a handful of wooly buggers. Maybe we'll have some converts soon .
