Default How much can i cut off a Mastry GPX?

I had a brand new fly line get cut a couple of years back and i recently found it in my basement. The cut is about 8 inches back from the loop on the front. How much can i cut off a mastery GPX 6 weight before i start getting messing up the taper?

Eight inches is into the front taper. According to the SA website, the first six inches is level. If the core has not been damaged, you can coat the cut with Pliobond or some sort of flexible glue.
