It is 100% OK as long as you name the fly after your dog.

I guess I'm joining the ranks too, cuz I'm going to use my dogs wavy hair and under furto tie a fly and name it after her. My dogs name is Roxanne and she was named after the song of the same name by the police. After her I'm going to name the fly 'Roxanne's Red Light.'

Attention New Fly Fishers and those just wanting to improve- Join a Fly Fishing Club. They have classes on every aspect of fly fishing for beginners to advanced for free or cheaper than offered elsewhere. Some offer mentor programs. You will make friends with other fly fishers. Clubs often have outings in which members pay special group rates for guides or to fish prime private access areas.

Guilty as charged.... Not quite as 'morose': but I also have been known to notice the color of my drier lint and think 'dubbing'.... takes a lot of spit to dub it up, but it works....

I know a guy who learned to fly fish during Rhodesia's (now Zimbabwe) civil war in the 70's. And back then, flies, line, rods--everything were hard to come by there. Anyway, he was just 12 or 13 at the time, but he used to cut fur from his cat. Apparently, he had lots of success with these flies and one of them was featured in his town's newspaper.
