After 3 weeks of stellar fishing, the Root bumped too much, fishing got kinda funky yesterday and fish wouldn't come up and eat. The clarity wasn't bad but when you are getting passed by 20 ft logs and you can hear sand sand blasting the bottom of your' driftboat, the fishing goes south.
I took my clients to the headwaters of the Clark Fork and stuck some huge fish 23 inch bows and browns on midge nymphs/ #20 red and black disco midges though and made it a good day.
The Missouri out of Craig Montana is fishing OK, some of the rainbows are gone to spawn, but I spoke with an excellent guide who works out of Headhunters and he said he had a good day. Pink scuds and egg patterns are what works for me, I'll be guiding that river for a few weeks starting in late April.
have a great Spring
