Which knots do you typically use ?
Good day to All,
I happened to read & print out the Thread that the Full Creel ( Steve ) put out on the Duncan/Uni-knot. I have never used this particular knot, but will give it a try next time I'm out. Since there are a lot of knots to use for various situations I was wondering what combination any of you use consistantly ? Let's say for connecting a 8-10lb leader to your butt section : - Do you like a Double Surgeons knot? - Or do you like a Blood knot ? - Or something else ? How about the tippet being connected to that leader ? - Do you again use a Double Surgeons knot ? - Or do you like the Blood knot ? I also have one of those Knot Tyers from Orvis on my vest all the time ( a gift from a very good friend ) & use it all the time, but mostly for the Clinch, Double Surgeons & Nail knots. Do you use a tool or tie them by hand ? Tie One On |
Re: Which knots do you typically use ?
I use either Polyleaders or furled leaders which connect via loop to loop. I only have to tie 1 knot. That is from the tippet to the fly.

Re: Which knots do you typically use ?
In the first case, I prefer a Blood Knot, or as an alternative, a Bimmini Twist for the salt.
In your second case, I increasingly have come to using a surgeons loop at both the leader and the tippet to allow for a loop-to-loop connection. (Sometimes the Perfection Loop on a heavier leader.) All of this is, of course, relative. It's impossible for me to cover the exceptions; however, I must state, for the record, I am not a fan of the nail knot. Doug |
