Default I am (not) listening to you!

So almost everyone else here loves to buy new gear as much as I do. Thank you for all of the responses about me being unreasonable.

For my next 9 weight I am deciding between the Hardy's Platinum XD ($300) or the Orvis Access ($375). Am I paying more money for the cool Orvis name?

Hardys:
Twin, large diameter butt rings for rapid clearance of slack line
Unique, one piece, saltwater-anodised reel fitting gives total protection
Low profile blanks cut through sea winds
Power, durability and delicacy of presentation
Nine foot, twelve-weight model comes with a fighting grip for shark or big tarpon
Four-piece design and tough triangular rod tube.

Orvis:
Deep root beer color blank
Matching root beer woven-graphite carbon and champagne anodized aluminum gold reel seat
All chrome guides
Sunburst wraps with gold tipping
Gold ferrule alignment dots
Saltwater reel seat with cork-and-EVA foam fighting butt
Super grade cork handles
Safe Passage rust-colored rod tube with internal dividers

Maybe I should wear a blindfold, cast these two rods (as well as a $1000 rod) and see what feels better. Does it matter?
Thanks again,
Rory

PS Reels will ba a whole other animal!

Yes, I would DEFINATELY go cast those two rods, absolutely. Then put them down and go buy a Loomis NativeRun GLX 9'6" for 8wt like a real man would. LOL, sometimes I crack myself up.

It might be just me but I think HARDY has a very cool name...LOL

I do like the bigger guides on my Hardy. he, he.

I would have to cast both and see what one liked me best.

I would cast every rod available for you to "Test Cast". No reason the be in a hurry when investing good coin.
Look for a rod that will cast well for the distances you find yourself fishing most often, and hopefully the shops you are visiting will also have a selection of different type lines already strung up.
