Hew guy with questions

Hi all.
I'm new to the forum. I'm Frank and live in Tempe, AZ.

I dabbled with fly fishing well over a decade ago, but never really got serious about it.

Recently a friend gave me some gear, but I don't know much about what's good and what's not, so I thought I'd ask about it here.

So, is this stuff any good? Here's what I got:

Diamondback CamoFly rod. 7'6" 4 wt. Camo pattern all over it. 2 pieces in a cloth bag and that in an aluminum tube.
G Loomis Adventure 3 reels. 2 of them

Looks like it has never been used at all.

There are some misc. fly boxes with assortments; a vest that has various gadgets attached to it.

The vest has a tag that says, "Stream Line" on it. I can't find any info about it online.

Some hip waders are coming, she said she has to dig them out of the garage.

So... ??

I think that you will be able to catch fish with that setup.


If the setup has been sitting in the garage there is a good chance that you might have to replace the fly line. Old fly line that makes loops at your feet makes even a great fly rod cast terrible.

Not sure about the rod but I am a fan of those reels. Then again I still have a Medalist in my sack of reels. Nice move by your friend for sure. Go fishing.

Hey there,
This gear is pretty decent. A 7.5 foot 4wt fly rod is pretty short, I would stick to smaller streams with it. You will be able to fish bigger rivers but your casting distance will be pretty short. Nothing wrong with what you got there, pretty good price too. As you are a beginner you will catch just as many fish on this equipment as you would with the top of the line gear. If I could give you any piece of advice I would spend a little $ on a fishing guide but first practice that cast. Good luck
