It's hard to say how effective it might be without a little streamside experimentation. I have seen recipes with both straight and curved shank hooks. I'm looking at a recipe for a TMC 2457 while I write this.

I have heard(never tried) that at times this works well for two reasons. One the trout in some rivers see the pheasenttail MANY times a day in the same size, color, and shape, so a curved one is just diffrent enough to make them hit. The other theroy is that as most nymphs come off the bottom and get moved by the current their body actually get a little curved, if this is true I have no idea, but it makes since. If you take something flat and put it in the current it will not stay flat as it moves in the water most times.
The best as said allready is go try 'em.

I actually use curved shank hooks for many of the nymphs I tie. This way I can have a very short shank but with a wider gap. Absolutely they work great.
