Default Dubbing Blender...

I have been trying to clean my tying room, at my wife's request...LOL The actual cleaning is going kind of slow because I'll find something that gives me an idea for a modified version of a fly, and of course I have to sit down and try it.

Last night I found my old coffee grinder, the little electric that looks like a miniture Cuisinart; and started thinking of an upcoming Steelhead trip. This time of year I fish mostly indicators and usually use a two fly rig, with a small stone as my nymph choice.

I tye a quick and easy little black stone in small sizes; but started thinking how much Steelies like the color blue. I took a little black hares ear, some black opossum, and some very bright blue lite brite, which I cut into small bits. All went into the blender for a quick flash blend; the results looked great. I think their will be at least a dozen going on a test drift tomorrow. I am already thinking of the other blends to come; brown and copper, a nice green for rockworms...

I love dubbing blends like that, and black with blue sparkle is a consistent deep water winner. You also might try some bugger type patterns with that mix spun in a dubbing loop and picked out with black marabou and blue flashabou for a tail. Add a conehead and you've got a early morning deep water killer.

I'd rather hunt fish than bait deer any day.
