Default Questions about Mallard Flank and Wood Duck Feathers

Hi Everyone,

As you may know Wood Duck feathers are hard to come by. I picked up some wood duck feathers and mallard flanks(which are much cheaper & you get a bag full) to tie dry flies suck as the Light Cahill. I know for this pattern you need to use the wood duck but what other patterns can you substitute the wood duck for mallard flank?

Also, when you use a wood duck feather for wings, what do you do with the rest of the feather?(just throw away or use for something else)?

Thanks for any help. -Bobby

Bobby, I thought that it was universally accepted (not positive though) that one could use mallard flank dyed wood duck yellow anytime the recipe called for wood duck. The salmon fly tyers probably wouldn't substitute. All of my trout flies I do.
