Default Copper John Critique

Please critique my efforts at a copper John, I haven't made any until last night and this is this mornings attempt. As you might know I am now getting back into tying and won't get any better with out someone telling me that it's horrible and this is why....
Thanks for any input.

Holy cow! That is great for fairly new to CJ's. Hardest parts are smooth wire body (yours is perfect); and epoxy back (yours is perfect).

Looks great Bruce, no reason why that shouldn't catch fish.

Bruce, that looks like it could catch fish if it was attached to MY line, and that's saying something!

Hi Bruce,

That is a terrific tie. Good taper to the body, a great layout with the biots. Just a good tie from every aspect.

Since you are looking for help here are a couple of things to think about.

1. It may be the picture but it seems to me the biots are just a little too long. Normally the length would be 1/2 the hook shank. They just seem a touch too long to my eye.

2. Your body is great but you might try taking a flat burnisher or what ever you have. It needs to be wide enough to cover at least three or four wraps. Work over the body applying pressure to level out the wraps. This helps if a wrap happens to be just a little higher than the others. It doesn't take much.

To be honest, I can't tie a Copper John as good as this one. If you are tying flies to fish with there is nothing wrong with this fly.

Frank

Beautiful tie agree with Frank...and can't tell you why but I would have added some extra turns of copper wire towards the tail...

Thanks to all for the comments and especially the criticisms, that is exactly what I was looking for. It does make sense to run the wraps over with a burnisher, I will make the tail a bit shorter and agree that the body could have been started down further towards the bend making it longer. I do want to get better at tying and I know there is a lot of very accomplished tiers on this board and for all of your help/comments I am thankful. I did take it out and it does fish well, or DID I should say, caught 5 with it this morn before I lost it to a rock, oh well time for more practice.
