What Thread to use?

Is there any simple recommendation out there on what size thread should be used in relation to hook size?

Re: What Thread to use?

hmmmmm. Well, let me start by saying I prefer Gudebrod thread.

I use their 6/0 for flies size 8-16, roughly.

8/0 for smaller stuff. (I've used 10/0, but I try not to. I'm way too ham-handed to use that wispy stuff)

3/0 for sizes 6-1/0. (though I actually switch off to Danville's flat waxed nylon for this range)

G for huge stuff and for spinning hair.
