Default Mono Eyes ?

My search didn't turn up a thing. I was going to tie some damselfly nymphs so I thought that I'd better make some mono eyes. It didn't seem like it would be hard. I was wrong.
Here's what I did. I took 30 lb green mono. Held it in tweezers. Hovered it over a cig lighter. It would burn at different rates. At times slump at a wierd angle. Different size eye on each side. Curve the shaft at times. One eye black; the other not.
After failing at a bunch of them I figured that I best ask for help. How can I make these?

I use 20lb red mono for my eyes. I cut a piece about 3/16" long and hold it in the middle of my forceps. Burn one side at a time and blow out the flame as it touches the forceps. Works great for me and turns out some killer eyes for damsels. Key is just after flame burns out turn the forceps so the eye is hanging down and you will get a straight (or reasonably so) set of eyes when your done. Good luck.

Kelly.

Kelly, that was huge. Thank you a bunch. Using your method my first two sets of eyes were a total success. Off to tie some damsel's.

I love this place, and the people on it.

Hi Jimmie,

I have done it with Amnesia and a small electric soldering iron. My soldering iron has a very small tip and you can manipulate the ball to what you want by controlling the heat.

I never had much luck making them either...I ended up using plastic bead chain that you get at craft stores. It comes in various sizes and colors and is very low cost. I'll try your method Kelly; the red eyes sound good.

Jimmie, I do it with 15lb mono (clear) and tie it on too the hook first, then melt it with the lighter a wee bit and blow on it too stop it melting keep doing this untill it looks right

This is what the eyes look like
