It has been awhile since I tied something that small but I would start with either 12/0 or 14/0 thread.
JS Fly Fishing: Rod Building, Fly Tying: Gordon Griffith 14/0 Sheer Ultrafine Thread

JS Fly Fishing: Rod Building, Fly Tying: Danville Spiderweb White Thread

I've never tried this, but it is definitely small:
JS Fly Fishing: Rod Building, Fly Tying: UNI Products Caenis Thread

I've used 17/0 Uni thread for small flies. It's white so I use a marker if I want to color it. I've also used 12/0, which is a bit stronger and comes colored. I think I got Orvis, but don't know that it's better than other brands. I really learned thread control with the 17/0 thread, and I enjoy tying with it. doesn't build up bulk on small flies and being able to color it, I can use it for bodies.

Agree that Veevus 16/0 is the best. Great selection of colors as well

I have used Gordon's Griffith 14/0 and have always been pleased with it. I may need to look at Veevus, I keep hearing good things about it. Good point by wiliamhj, the smaller threads really have improved my thread control too.

I use Veevus 16/0 and the white is flourescent, so the colours show up amazingly

Agree with Laurie and the others on Veevus 16/0 for small patterns.
