Spey fly materials
 
What are the essential spey tying materials? Any certain feathers and what not? Im new to these and looking to tie some salmon and steelhead flies

depends a lot on the fly.
there are full feather wings,
married wings,
mallard wings
Hair wings

Find a decent book or find some patterns online and buy from there. As with starting out tying any style of fly, its best to start with one or two patterns.

I just posted a Sweeney Todd fly for steelhead, which is a modern update of an older english pattern.

It used silver fox hair (dyed black)for the wing, with a floss body and some grizzly hackles for cheeks.

You know I was considering doing that any ways so thanks for giving me the nudge to just do it. I bought a book from amazon
