wax your thread, cobblers wax is best, but dubbing wax will work fine.

I've been following this thread and would like to know if you are using a tool ? Could be the "angle of the dangle" as you manipulate the thread for the first wrap with the finisher.

Slippage will happen to me even with the sparsest heads if the standing thread closest to the hook gets leaning more than perpendicular to the shank and angles eye-ward as I start the finish.

I'm not advocating a hand whip finish, I use a tool myself, but I can't recall slippage when I went by hand.
