For what it's worth. I did this years ago. I submitted one of my my original commercial ties. I never heard a thing back from Orvis. Nada, zip, zilch, zero. I was disappointed I didn't even get a response of any sort. My fly , I believe, truly is original and unique, still nothing. No worries, I still support Orvis as I think they are one of the best in the business.

I would rather win second place and get the vice, better than a pic of your fly in a catalog!

I'm not sure what the deal is now, but when I submitted a pattern, Orvis would actually pay you royalties if your fly was selected and used in an upcoming catalogue.

I know this isnt a popular opinion and I do use and like a few Orvis products but overall I dont like how they have undercut some fly shops that have worked for years promoting the Orvis brand only to have a Orvis company store move in 2 blocks away and take all the Orvis brand sales. Its happened to the 30 yr leading fly shop in Atlanta and is about to happen again to a newer shop in North Atlanta. So not only would I would never let a fly I created be handled by Orvis I doubt I'd ever use any Orvis product other than SS tippet material and Hydros fly line

nothing against orvis but contests in general are not for me

the royalties will not make you rich over night or even over time

Why does something have to make you famous or rich to enter a contest... Can't you just do it for fun? If it's not a spring board to something bigger and better people just don't want anything to do with it
