Hi Bluebird,

My wife and I both learned to tye at the same time. We had two vices and she enjoyed tying even though she didn't fly fish. From what you have said this may be something you and your wife could do together. Just be prepared for her to be the best tyer in the family.

Frank

Excuse my ignorance here, but I am not familiar with this tool at all and having read all the posts in this thread I still have no idea what it does.

Anyone care to educate me?? I am very interested.

hehe... same thing with me... at first I got no clue what the hell is that Magic Tool for... lol

ok, I will try my best to explain....

I pressume that you know about the Whipping Tool? Where you cut materials in pieces and you twist in between 2 threads. It will come out like a "chenille". This Magic Tool works the same way, easy to build for a certain manner.

Instead of wraps around the thread to twist, this one you tie the usual around the hook, then split the thread and separating it. Then you prepare the materials (feather, yarn, flahsbou, or whatever you wish) and twist it into the thread and wrap the fly like you are using a chenille.

Whew... I guess the more experience people can explain it better than me...

For years I've been using a triangular piece of foam rubber with slits in it for de-stemming CDC. You push the stem into a slit, grab it on the side with tweezers or a filed smooth spring loaded paper clip, pull it out, clip the stem off & put it in a dubbing loop. or split the thread & spin it on. It's the same procedure as with the Magic tool but about $20.00 cheaper.
