Default weedless

How do you tie on a weedguard? I'm useing 16lb game mono pushed through the eye and then tied off behind the hook eye. But is that too heavy?

When I tie topwater flies for bass and pike, I typically use 20-25# Mason hard mono and I run it through the hook eye, then wrap over the mono (both above the shank and below it) before tying off.

I use a pair 24-30# mono loops
Tie them off at the bend first , one on each side
Wrap the thread down a good portion of the way down the bend.
Then tie the fly as usual
After the fly head is tied off, bring the mono around ... about even with the hoop point, and stick them through the hook eye,... tie off and trim
Then heat your bodkin in a flame. When hot, poke it througt the hook eye to melt the mono and seal it in place
I use the 2 loops because a single will get bent out of shape rather quickly. A second will just extend the life

for an example, I've tied some pigboats this morning.
But by the time I've tyed everything on...... I've crowded the eye, and end up with barely enough room to get even 6x tippet through....Maybe longer hooks and/or less material? then I'll use either uv knot sense or epoxy to form a nice head. All this stuff on the hook makes it hard not to get anything inside the eye.
I'll try to post pictures... Not sure if I can.
