Default Looking for Flyfishing or flytying trade shows.

I live in Jacksonville, Florida and would like to know if anyone is aware of any fly fishing or fly tying shows or seminars that will be held in this area in 2011. I would be interested in any in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina or Alabama.

I would like the same information for the Midwest.

Any chance we could post a sticky thread that would be a place for folks to list any/all flyfishing/fly tying shows?

Most Trout Unlimited Chapters host a spring kickoff show or they can tell you where to find one. The best source may be your nearest Fly Shop. I say this because many shops set up booths at shows and have them on their schedules. For salt water areas, the shops may be your best bet for info. There are shops and a TU chapter in the Atlanta area. There were when I lived there but the names may have changed. Get on the search engine and then give them a call. Georgia is fiy fishen country.

The two I like to go to are the International Sportsman Expo and The Fly Fishing Show in Denver. They will be in Raleigh, NC Jan 29-30, 2011.
Raleigh, NC

Here is the link to the International Sportsman Expo, but for some reason they don't go out east, seems kind of odd: Denver Colorado Sportsmans Show : International Sportsmen?s Expo : ISE Tickets & Info

Southeastern Fly Fishing Festival will be back at Unicoi State Park & Resort, Helen, Georgia, in the beautiful Blueridge mountains. Mark your calendars for June 2-4, 2011. Here is the link: 2010 FFF SEC Conclave Site

This is a little far but what the heck, plan your summer vactation around it! The 46th Annual FFF Fly Fishing Fair & Conclave will be held in West Yellowstone, MT on August 30th - September 3rd, 2011.

Ard's suggestion about stopping in your local fly shop is a good one. In addition to participating in the bigger fly fishing or "sportsman" (all types of fishing as well as hunting) shows, they might also have "open house" days, tying classes or (informal just drop-in tying get togethers), or special events during the winter.

You can also do searches for Trout Unlimited chapters and clubs affiliated with the Federation of Fly Fishers in your area. These groups will almost always know of the annual shows in the area, and may have car pools for shows a long drive away. These clubs may also have their own special events, annual get togethers complete with vendor booths, auctions and banquets, interesting speakers and other stuff like tying classes and group trips for winter fishing.

search here for more clubs affiliated with the Federation of Fly Fishers:
Locate a Club

search here for TU chapters:
Council/Chapter Contacts | Trout Unlimited - Conserving coldwater fisheries

You can also check out local fly clubs--- your local shop can also suggest FF clubs in your area that may not be affiliated with FFF or TU like this one in Jacksonville:

First Coast Fly Fishers in Jacksonville, FL
First Fly Fishers of Jacksonville Florida

The biggest FF shows are run by these guys:
Fly Fishing Show

Here's the schedule for 2011:

Denver, CO
January 7, 8, 9
Denver Merchandise Mart

Marlborough, MA
January 14, 15, 16
Royal Plaza

Somerset, NJ
January 21, 22, 23
Garden State Convention Center

Raleigh, North Carolina
January 29, 30
NC State Fairgrounds

Pasadena, CA
February 19, 20
Pasadena Convention Center

Pleasanton, CA
February 25, 26, 27
Alameda County Fairgrounds

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
March 5,6
Valley Forge Convention Center

but there are many smaller shows throughout the country including:

Indiana on the Fly 2011
"Fly Fishing - Wing Shooting Show"
January 8
Show hours are 9:00 am to 5:00 pm
Admission ... Adults $10; Kids 10 & under free
Indiana State Fairgrounds
Feature Guest Speaker - Joe Humphrey
Nationally known fly fisherman, conservationist, author & educator

Here's a link from the Texas Fly Fishing Forum that has a good many 2011 shows listed from all over the country (but again, check locally to find many more) :

2011 Fly Fishing Show, Festival, and Conclave List - Texas Fishing Forum

Some, like the Sowbug Roundup (Arkansas in March) are pretty famous and a draw folks from all over the world.

Thank you all for the many suggestions. I don't know why I didn't think about the fly shops in my area. Good suggestion. Thanks again to all.
