my first attempt at a classic wet fly:

silver and pearl tinsel
hot orange wire
orange floss underneath
grizzly marabou hackle
barred mallard for tail and wing
no JC in my collection yet!

Got some lovely teal in from Laurie, couldn't resist tying some Teal & Silver variants

Hackle: whiting grizzle hen dyed blue
wing: teal body

Also some nice dyed pheasant tail

Stuart: superb flies, man! I just love those.

ttbloom: that is an excellent first! Hell, that's just a great fly. The materials and proportions are perfect. I wish I could crank them out like that.

as usual planettrout, great stuff.

That teal and silver variant is awesome, la jolla. love it. and thanks for doing the swap!

A variant on one of my favorite leech patterns

Last spring, I saw cranes coming off and found marginal success with the patterns I had on hand. Since that time I have been thinking about them and hoping to go back better prepared. I'm still thinking through the dry but read a book and was inspired.
