A few crawfish flies for smallmouth and largemouth. One with hen back feathers for the pinchers, the other using short rabbit strips in barred burnt orange.
  Tom ---------- Post added at 10:01 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:48 AM ---------- I found this pattern in Jack Ellis's "Bassin' with a Fly Rod", he calls it a "Grinnel Fly". He says its his most effective pattern in natural, olive, and black. I've never tied/fished this particular pattern, but I have had luck with rabbit strip divers so I thought I'd give this a try. It looks really "bassy" to me. It has a thin 4" rabbit strip tail and a smallish deer hair head with 4 mm doll eyes. Its hitting 70 degrees this weekend in NorCal, hoping top water season isn't far away now...   Tom

Very excited to have a new Anvil Atlas vise.
 Works great. Still getting used to the new configurations. Some of the first offerings are some caddis and sedge wing patterns.    The flies are placed on some of the literature from Anvil. Thought they belonged  cheers phil

Yesterday, while on the computer, this little guy made an appearance in the flesh. Just showed up on or around the keyboard. I put him in a little bottle and proceeded to tie him up. I then let the little guy go. He had antenna but they were so small I figured the front legs could act as antenna and (as Ricky says) get two birds stoned at once.
I used super glued mallard flank for the wing. Moose mane for tail. Black thread for body and moose mane for wrap. The legs are wild boar coat. Very coarse and wirey. Coated body with head cement. I think it looks pretty true to the original. Maybe a little less pronounced wing but pretty close.   cheers phil
