I tied 2 dozen of these over the winter, but somehow only 6 ended up in my box. Apparently I gave them to my buddies with the intent of tying more for me. I had 6 in my box and lost 4 last Saturday so obvioulsy needed more. Caught 16 fish on these last Saturday. This is a "borrowed" pattern from Frank of Bush Creek Cane. Only "recipe" I've ever seen online for this was on PT's site

Went to K-Mart with the wife... Of course I hit the fishing section and tons of stuff is on clearance. Hook packs were anywhere from .45c to .74c

I saw these red hooks and a stupid crayfish idea popped in my head... Just a prototype so its pretty ugly but I'll probably fish it just for the heck of it.

I should note that this is not my design. But I did tweak it a little by tapering the body into a midge look. I have tried several versions of this fly. With dubbing, without, improved Han's style version, cut cdc, uncut cdc etc... I am tying these for a trout trip in the fall.

Hook: Your favorite nymph hook in stonefly sizes
Thread: Yellow or Gold
Weight: Lead wire or equivalent
Tail: Pheasant tail fibers
Over Body case: Mallard flank
Abdomen: Stripped brown hackle stem
Thorax: Yellowish dubbing
Legs: Hungarian partridge or equivalent

The above fly is just one color and as the tyer you can tie them in whatever color of stonefly that inhabits your area streams

Tail: Dark ginger hackle fibers
Abdomen: Dark orange floss
Thorax: Black chenille
Hackle: Dark ginger
