I've been working on restocking my stillwater box for the spring. Blood midge is a big spring hatch at Lake Davis here in Northern California, one of my favorite trout lakes. Here are some blood midge patterns I tied over the hols; these are mostly in size 14 and 16, and I tied some of these with red pheasant tail, a material I haven't used for these patterns in the past, but I like the look. I also added some emergers, a pattern I haven't used much in the past. The technique I've had the most success with is subsurface, either floating line with strike indicator and long leader (especially with a little chop on the water), or clear intermediate line hand-twist retrieved verrry slowly. Can't wait for spring!

With some imagination looks like a Trichoptera (hairwings) huh ? from a little distance anyway.

Up closer looks like a caddis fly pattern.........
